Roots of Conspiracy

“The NWO is hard at work and moving fast.”

“The elite’s conspiracy to exploit the financial crisis to finalize their global government takeover.”

“The ultra-secret Order of the Illuminati has members who are devoted to America’s destruction by merging us into an all-powerful, one-world-government.”

“Puppetmasters behind the prophesied One World Government, One World Currency and One World Religion that is coming.”

Sound familar?

Emails, blogs or websites containing these assertations are easily found. Stories of conspiracies are ever-popular. They are also quite old.
Jer. 11:1-11, v 9 And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

The word “conspiracy” is Strong’s number 7195 – transliterated “qesher” (koof shin resh), meaning conspiracy, treason, (unlawful) alliance.

Jer. 11:10 “They have turned back to the iniquities of their ancestors who refused to hear My words, and they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers.”

Ezekial 22:23-31 – 23 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 24 “Son of man, say to her, ‘You are a land that is not cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.’ 25 “There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey. They have devoured lives ; they have taken treasure and precious things ; they have made many widows in the midst of her. 26 “Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things ; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean ; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. 27 “Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain. 28 “Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD,’ when the LORD has not spoken. 29 “The people of the land have practiced oppression and committed robbery, and they have wronged the poor and needy and have oppressed the sojourner without justice. “

The oldest conspiracy is the one man has engaged in since the fall of Adam – disobeying God. Yet we have a tendency to want to blame something or someone else for the consequences of that disobedience. Isn’t it easier to point the finger at someone else and say ‘it’s his fault” than it is to admit I brought something I don’t like into my life because I ignored God’s word.

Too often, the fingerpointing accuses the Jewish people or some semi-secret, long lasting cabal of “elites” of ruining/running/taking over the world/already in charge of world affairs or some combination thereof.

Daniel Pipes studied the roots of conspiracy theories and found them to be persistent. In his book, Conspiracy: How the Paranoid Style Flourishes and Where It Comes From, Pipes looks at the records that can be accessed and discusses the philosophical forces that drive the conspiracy theories. Very interesting material but not encouraging for those who believe in the elite puppetmasters that control or want to control your life.

Willful ignorance

This week, we studied the story of Noah. Of course, we live in times where the story of the great flood is considered to be fiction.

2 Pet.3:3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

The book Grand Canyon: A Different View offers a discussion of the evidence of the flood presented by the Grand Canyon.  It has photos of the Grand Canyon, with illustrative Bible verses, essays from scientific Christians who believe the flood formed the Canyon, descriptions of the animals and plants living in the Canyon,  and a few essays by Christians explaining why they believe in Biblical creation rather than the theory of evolution or the Big Bang Theory.

The photos are beautiful and the book raises issues not easily explained except by God’s word. Recommended for families.

Is it really by chance?

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something entirely unrelated.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. Proverbs 25:2.

Our family watched one of the DVDs in the series: Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Christian Families 10 DVD Set Vision Forum last night. The speaker strongly encouraged us to develop a multi-generational entrepreneurial vision for our family. However, one of the comments stuck in my mind – he mentioned several times that the good fortune his family received on occasion was purely serendipitous.

While it probably was not what he was looking for, perhaps the glory should be directed to the one that supplies all our needs. As previously pointed out, nothing is really by chance. It is our Father’s glory to conceal something and our job to seek it out. And when we do find it, the glory belongs to Him.

Journey to the Castle of Temperance – 50 mile hike

Last week, our son Alex participated in a 50 mile 24 hour endurance hike in eastern Oklahoma. He is part of Unit 42 of the ALERT training. The same day, our family was reading book two of the Terrestria series: Terrestria Chronicles — The Quest for Seven Castles. Prince Josiah was just starting his journey to the Castle of Temperance, facing a long hike through rough wilderness and mountains. The trip would be a test of his ability to endure hardship, in physical, emotional and spiritual forms. In the same way, Alex slogged through rain and cold with his teammates. The commander said it was one of the most miserable hikes they had taken in years.

When we talked with Alex on Sunday, his response to “How was the hike?”: “It was excellant!!” Great answer.  God is faithful and we are thankful.

The Terrestria series begins with Terrestria Chronicles — The Sword, the Ring, and the Parchment. This was recommended to us by another homeschooling family. Like the Master’s parables, these books illustrate spiritual issues with engaging stories. Recommended for family discussions.

God created, God Built

So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female. Gen. 1:27 (HCSB)

One of the hardest concepts to really hold onto is that God is in charge of everything.  In God Built: Forged by God… in the Bad and Good of Life, Steve Farrar digs into the life of Joseph. Farrar reveals God’s creative process active in our lives, where He  supplies everything we need,  often in ways that we won’t understand, while building our patience and trust in Him.  I like his writing style and the insights into everyday life.  Both men and women can learn from this book and be better equipped.
